Chris Federer from Voltage Control led an activity called The Optimist Mirror that is handy when a group is about to work together and needs to sync.

The intention of Aprilâs session was to explore mimicry and mirroring in the virtual space and see how they can create a sense of togetherness and help teams sync.
Because the activities involve what some may consider being embarrassing we went through a progression to help build up the groupâs âthreshold of acceptabilityâ.
We started off our session of this âExploring Team Syncâ inspired session with a presencing activity greeting each other until we achieved a rhythm.
Next, in âPass A Movementâ, participants shared dance moves with each other.
In âThe Optimist Mirrorâ we jumped into breakout rooms in pairs for 3 rounds. Round 1: Pairs mimic and alternate movements in a free flow. Round 2: Person A acts out the cue: âItâs a bright dayâ. Person B mimics their movement. Round 3: Person B acts out the cue: âItâs a wonderful thingâ. Person A mimics their movement. Closing: Each pair picked a moment that they liked and performed it bach in the main room followed by a quick debrief. Debrief âOne Word Chat Stormâ: Invigorating +1, Fun, Great to get loose, and Aerobic.

We agreed movement/mimicry is a great break and a useful tool for helping teams feel better connected. Best used before groups are going to be working together on a project or get back in sync.
